Earlier today I released a new version of Book Burro to work with Firefox 1.5. In my excitement about a new release of el burro, I forgot to mention the new release of Firefox. Below is a summary of what it means to regular users:
What is Firefox 1.5?
The latest release from Mozilla. It was released today after months of hard work.
Does it do my taxes?
No, although it does have several new features including SVG, Canvas, and new XML JavaScript "helpers". If you are a webdeveloper who can target only Firefox you are in heaven! If you are an end user you won't see much.
Why should I install it then?
You should upgrade to Firefox 1.5 for stablity, speed, and security (in the sense that it can patch itself automatically, and the new XPCNativeWrappers which have magical properties). Really. That is it. Perhaps someone will create an extension that makes one of the new technological features a killer feature for end users. Right now Firefox 1.5 is about making a good browser better. Increamental improvements. (if you want to play with some new stuff, check out a firefox 1.5 derivative)
You have to give Microsoft some time to catch up. We'll let the release IE7 next year, then we will unleash Firefox 2 (I got a script kiddie to DDOS mozilla, and he stole the source for FF2. It rocks. I cannot believe it will be written in 100% javascript. Even the javascript interpreter is written in javascript. ;)
